SHAPE South Asia 2023

Our hub hosted 130+ Shapers from 14 countries at SHAPE South Asia 2023 under the theme “Shaping Climate Resiliency towards a Great Himalayan Future for All”. This was the first regional SHAPE held since COVID-19, and was the second time that we won the opportunity to host.

The opening ceremony was held on the evening of May 19 2023 and saw the presence of the Right Honourable Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, Vice President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal together with dignitaries from the private sector, government and development partners.

Three major outcomes were delivered at SHAPE South Asia 2023:

1. Launch of an advocacy paper that highlights key challenges, opportunities, and action points for climate resiliency in South Asia. The paper was developed and owned by the youth of 14 city-based hubs across South Asia and benefitted from technical inputs from experts across the region.

2. Nation’s first pledges from the private sector [represented by Confederation of Nepalese Industries, Confederation of Nepalese Industries — Young Entrepreneurs Forum (CNIYEF), and Nepal Chamber of Commerce] that outlined specific action items to support nationally determined criteria for Nepal under the Paris Climate Agreement.

3. Climate Reality Project trained attendees and facilitated the development of new projects by Shapers to combat climate change and its impact in their own individual city hubs.

In reality, the main achievement was the stronger bonds developed between the attending shapers, most of whom were attending a SHAPE for the first time. The event showcased strong partnerships with corporate partners, such as Ncell and Coca Cola, as well as development agencies such as Swiss Development Cooperation.
