In the aftermath of the 2015 earthquake, the Global Shapers Kathmandu Hub identified the Tippeni Health post in Sindhupalchowk district as a focus of rebuilding efforts. The district was among the most devastated areas, and the nearest hospital was a three-hour drive away. The hub raised over $100,000 to rebuild the health post, aiming to provide high-quality healthcare services to residents who couldn’t afford to travel for treatment and preferred low-cost, high-quality care closer to home.

After intensive rounds of schematic reviews, on-site sub-structure assessments, and clearing the road to the health post due to frequent landslides, the health post was rebuilt and started serving nearby communities in full capacity by 2018.

Impact and Goals:

  • Serve as a provider of low-cost, high-quality healthcare for more than 18,000 rural community members in the most-affected area due to the 2015 earthquake.
  • Provide immediate healthcare facilities, saving time and effort for people who would otherwise have to travel long distances, thereby reducing costs and increasing community safety.
  • Annually, the health post serves over 18,000 patients from the area. Including visitors and indirect beneficiaries, the number reaches 36,000 individuals annually. Although the health post is supposed to treat patients from four Village Development Committees (VDCs)—Bhotenamlang, Lagarche, Thangpaldhap, and Banskharka—it caters to patients from 10 VDCs (or 90 wards).
