Following the closure of schools due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Shaping Pathshalas project was conceptualized to make students excited about returning back to school after a long hiatus. The initiative then gradually evolved into helping students explore a variety of non-traditional career options. We worked with public schools around Kathmandu Valley to guide, support and explore opportunities with students through a combination of exciting activities and hands-on sessions when they resumed after the lockdown. The first session was a day-long program at a school in Kavre, Kathmandu, for students of classes 6-9 to help them explore non-traditional career opportunities and also to educate them about climate change. A second session was conducted in December 2021 at Shree Adinath School with over 40 students of Grade 7 and 8. We found that students of Grade 7 and 8 were most responsive as they had started thinking about future career plans and were also receptive to new ideas. The feedback received from students indicated that the sessions exposed them to different career options apart from the more traditional career routes.
